April 10 through May 12, 2004

Schomburg Gallery, in association with KJAZZ Radio, celebrates April 2004 as "National Jazz Appreciation Month" with an exhibition of abstract expressionist paintings saluting and visualizing the music of a treasury of renowned jazz musicians many of whom live in the Los Angeles area. Terry Gibbs, Kenny Burrell, Tierney Sutton, Alan Broadbent, Diane Schuur, and Terry Trotter are among them, and the legendary jazz of Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and Marian McPartland have also inspired the exhibition's powerful visual expressions.

Entitled "JazzWorks", the exhibition presents works of artist, Norton Wright. Each painting takes the form of a jazz improvisation, bursts of accents and symbols which, like jazz licks, organically build and swing into a complete whole.
